In what may be seen as a message to its ally Shiv Sena, BJP chief Amit Shah has said that his party could get enough seats to form the government on its own.
In an interview with News18 website, Union Home Minister Amit Shah predicted that NDA would get two-thirds majority in the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra.
Shah said the BJP will improve its tally from last time when it won 122 seats, just 22 less than the halfway mark. As a result, it joined hands with Shiv Sena to form the government in the state.
In the upcoming state polls, BJP is fighting on 164 seats. When asked if the party could get enough seats to form the government on its own, the Home Minister said, "Yes, we can go that far. It is not impossible."

Shah also cleared BJP's stand on Shiv Sena's demand for deputy chief minister post, saying the party is open to the idea of offering the position to its ally. He was, however, quick to add that Devendra Fadnavis will continue to retain the post of chief minister.
He said the combination of Devendra Fadnavis and Narendra Modi has worked well for Maharashtra. Shah said the unblemished image of the Fadnavis-led government in the state has also put the voters behind BJP.
"In five years not even the staunchest political opponents of BJP in Maharashtra have been able to level one charge of corruption against our government just as they haven't been able to do for the Prime Minister at the centre," Shah was quoted as saying.
