On a day when India saw its first fatality due to the novel coronavirus, Congress parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi targetted the Centre, saying the BJP-led government was in a "stupor".

Rahul retweeted his February 12 tweet in which he had drawn government's attention to the "threat" COVID-19 posed to India's people and economy, emphasising "timely action is critical."

On Friday, the former Congress President said: "I will keep repeating this.

"The #coronavirus is a huge problem. Ignoring the problem is a non-solution. The Indian economy will be destroyed if strong action is not taken. The government is in a stupor."

A 76-year-old man, who died two days ago in Karnataka while being treated for suspected coronavirus, became India's first COVID-19 fatality with his samples taken earlier confirming the infection, the state government said on Thursday.
