When actor Sunny Deol was in the prime of his Bollywood career, he would single-handedly take Pakistan to the task.

The 62-year-old actor is now the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Gurdaspur, Punjab, where he is campaigning in the searing heat of May.

In a brief interaction with NDTV, when Sunny was asked about Pakistan on the silver screen, the "Gadar" actor said, "Movies are different, but this is not a movie this is real life. I have always done positive roles in my life my sentiments are also the same."

Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sunny said he has done a great job and he wants him to continue with his great job. "After all to keep the nation together and take it forward are signs of a good leader," he said.

But unlike other leaders, Sunny concedes that his political innings has just begun. "I do not know much about issues like Balakot strikes or India's relations with Pakistan. I am here to serve people; if I win maybe I will have an opinion, right now I don't," he admits.

Sunny's reason for joining the BJP was also straightforward. "My father and I, we all live together. He had joined Vajpayee Ji and now I want to join PM Modi," he said.

In 2017, the Congress had wrested the Gurdaspur constituency from the BJP after its candidate Sunil Jakhar won by a huge margin of 1.9 lakh votes. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of yesteryear Bollywood superstar Vinod Khanna who successfully fought 4 elections from the constituency.
