The violence that had erupted in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri has now taken a political turn. Opposition leaders who have been trying to reach the farmers' protest site have been stopped, detained.

Denied Entry: Here's How Opposition Is Being Kept Away From Lakhimpur Kheri

Opposition politicians have been trying to reach Lakhimpur Kheri ever since the violence had erupted in at the protesting site in the Uttar Pradesh district. It started when Union Minister of State Ajay Misra Teni's son allegedly deliberately rammed a vehicle into a group of protesting farmers. The aftermath involved a lot of violence where at least 8 deaths have been confirmed till now.  Here's how different opposition politicians are finding difficulties in reaching the violence hit protest site.

Priyanka Gandhi

She was detained on her way from Sitapur to Lakhimpur Kheri. She said that her vehicle was stopped on her way to the violence-hit area of Uttar Pradesh and quoted in multiple media reports that she was held in the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) guest house in Sitapur.

Senior Congress leader and Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu tweeted a video of her in which she was seen questioning the Uttar Pradesh Police.

Akhilesh Yadav - 

The Samajwadi Party Chief and ex-CM of Uttar Pradesh was detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police right outside his residence. He then began a sit-in protest where thousands of Samajwadi Party workers joined him. 

The official handle of Samajwadi Party tweeted a video which shows the massive Samajwadi Party crowd showing support to Akhilesh Yadav, 

Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan -

The Bhim Army chief's convoy was stopped near Khairabad in Sitapur. He has been detained by Sitapur police since then. "The police says that the Chief Minister does not want you to go to the protest site therefore, we are stopping you" he tweeted.

He also shared a video of him being stopped at the Khairabad Toll Plaza,

Gurnam Singh Charuni - 

The leader of Bharatiya Kisan Union was detained in Meerut on Monday while en route to Lakhimpur Kheri but he was released later Monday night, within few hours.  He then called on his protestors to join him at Tikri border from where they would be marching to Lakhimpur Kheri. He tweeted and informed,

Navjot Singh Sidhu - 

The Punjab Congress Chief staged a protest in front of the main gate of the governor's house in Chandigarh and raised slogans. The police arrived there shortly and detained him along with his associates. He was released from the Sarangpur police station soon. 

Sidhu informed that he was arrested and can be seen raising the slogans of 'Tanashashi Nahi Chalegi' in this video tweeted by him,

Sukhjinder Randhawa and Bhupesh Baghel- 

The flights of Sukhjinder Randhawa, the Deputy CM of Punjab and Bhupesh Baghel, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh were restricted entry into the state. Uttar Pradesh's Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Awanish Kumar Awasthi said in a letter dated October 3 to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), "After the incident in Lakhimpur, the DM has imposed prohibitory orders there to maintain law and order. It is requested that you should not allow Chhattisgarh CM and Punjab deputy CM at the CCS Airport in Lucknow,"

The Chhattisgarh CM said to the media, “Is there no right of citizens? Do we need a visa to go to UP? When something happens in other states, do the BJP leaders don’t pay a visit? When they do, it’s fine, when others do, it’s politics?”
