At a time when the lockdown imposed in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak has triggered a mass exodus of migrant workers, former BJP minister Uma Bharti on Wednesday said the people heading to their homes on foot are not "poor" and defined in a series of tweets who the "real poor" are.
Bharti took to Twitter on Wednesday and, in a series of tweets, and dished out a lesson on who the real poor people were.
In one of her tweets, Bharti said: “Poor is someone who despite being rich is not able to eat anything due to diseases such as sugar, heart problems, and high cholesterol.”

Her list of "real poor" people included corrupt politicians, people who demand dowry.
“Poor people are those politicians who are corrupt; those people whose greed does not end despite getting crores; those civil servants who draw huge salaries but also take bribes," she tweeted.
She emphasized that people should not call the labourers 'poor people'. Rather, she said, they should be called 'Mehnatkash' or hardworking people, because "they are the ones who constructed our roads, electricity, houses, the entire world has been made by them.”
Bharti praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for calling the differently-abled ‘divyang’. “This (divyang) is the correct usage as despite not having one part of their body they work with the power of divinity. Hence divyang was the correct usage,” Bharti tweeted.
