Senior leaders of the Congress and the NCP held talks in New Delhi on Wednesday with a focus on firming up the modalities for taking a shot at government formation in Maharashtra.
The meeting took place at the residence of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar. Congress leaders Ahmed Patel, Jairam Ramesh, Mallikarjun Kharge, Prithviraj Chavan, K C Venugopal and Balasaheb Thorat attended the meeting.
Those representing the NCP included Supriya Sule, Ajit Pawar, Jayant Patil and Nawab Malik.
Earlier, Congress leaders from the state met party's senior leadership in the national capital.
"There is a presidential rule in Maharashtra. People and farmers are suffering. The administration has been collapsed. There should be an alternative government. There is a meeting between the two parties to find a solution," NCP leader Nawab Malik was quoted as saying by ANI.

Maharashtra came under President's Rule after all the parties failed to form a government in the state.
The Shiv Sena is now in parleys with the Congress and NCP to form a government in the state.
Earlier the NCP had said the alliance with Shiv Sena will be based on a Common Minimum Programme fixed by the party and its pre-poll ally Congress. It also said if the government is formed by the three parties, Shiv Sena will get the CM's post.
The BJP won 105 seats in the 288-member assembly followed by Shiv Sena 56, NCP 54 and Congress 44.
