A delegation of Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders is set to meet Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at his residence later today even as an impasse continues over formation of the state government.

According to sources, NCP leaders including, state chief Jayant Patil, Nawab Malik, Jitendra Awahad, Ajit Pawar, and Congress state chief Balasaheb Thorat and former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan will be part of the delegation. They are expected to discuss the current political situation and the agricultural crisis in the state.

The government formation in Maharashtra has been delayed by more than 10 days due to a high-pitch feud between the BJP and the Shiv Sena over the chief minister's post. The two allies won a clear majority in the Assembly elections held on October 21.

On Monday, NCP chief Sharad Pawar met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and discussed the political situation in the state.

He said there was no talk with Shiv Sena about lending or taking its support to form the government, and the mandate for his party was to sit in the opposition.

Shiv Sena has stated it had a '50-50' power-sharing agreement with the BJP before the elections. However, CM Devendra Fadnavis, later, said the Sena was not promised the post of chief minister for two-and-a-half years when the alliance was sealed before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP emerged as the single largest party, winning 105 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly polls. The Shiv Sena bagged 56 seats in the 288-member state Assembly.
