A rooster who was fitted with a knife for a cockfight in southern India killed its owner by causing serious injuries to its groin, said the police. The police are carrying investigation against the organisers of the event.

The incident took place in Karimnagar district of Telangana

The rooster had a knife attached to its leg, which was supposed to be used for harming the opponent in the illegal cockfight. However, the bird ended up causing serious injuries to its owner who eventually died due to loss of blood before he could even reach the hospital in the Karimnagar district in Telangana, said the police.

The victim of the incident was one of the 16 organisers of the cockfight event in the village of Lothunur. The bird was briefly kept at the police station before it was sent to a poultry farm.

"We are searching for the other 15 people involved in organising the illegal fight", said an officer. These people could be liable for manslaughter, illegal betting and hosting a cockfight, he added.
