In the second and final Test match of the series, India were asked to bowl first at Hyderabad by West Indies captain Jason Holder, who won the toss. India won the first Test at Rajkot by an innings and 272 runs.

Windies Challenge India's Domination

India failed to take advantage of the good start given by spinners as the West Indies ended Day 1 at 295/7.

On a perfect day for Test cricket, India bowled 95 overs at the play at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium after losing debutant Shardul Thakur early in the morning.

But the spinners provided a good start before the Windies lower-order staged a stunning fightback.

Roston Chase stood firm with an unbeaten 98. The 26-year-old was helped by cameos from Shai Hope (36), Shane Dowrich (30) and skipper Jason Holder (52). Chase first stitched a 69-run sixth-wicket stand with Dowrich which stalled the Indian progress, then produced a 104-run stand with skipper Holder for the seventh-wicket.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav and Umesh Yadav took three wickets each, while Ravichandran Ashwin got one.

Chase Holds Firms

Soon after Tea, Windies moved past 200-run mark with Roston Chase holding firm with a sturdy half-century. He and Shane Dowrich (30) posted a 69-run sixth-wicket stand.

Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets, while Umesh Yadav got two.

Windies were 197/6 at Tea

Lunch Break

Asked to bowl first in the second Test, India removed the top-three West Indies batsmen before Day 1 Lunch.

After spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav dismissed opener Kraigg Brathwaite (14) and Kieran Powell (22), pacer Shai Hope trapped Shai Hope (36) in front, thus leaving the visitors 86/3 after 31.3 overs.

Ashwin Strikes

Ravichandran Ashwin got the first wicket of the day.

But Ravichandran Ashwin removed Powell in the 12th over, caught by his spin partner Ravindra Jadeja for 22 runs. Kuldeep Yadav then got the better of Brathwaite (14), trapping the opener in front.

Holder Returns

Jason Holder returned to lead the Windies after missing out on the first test, which India won by an innings and 272 runs. He won the toss and elected to bat first. They have made two changes, two changes West Indies have made. The skipper replaced Keemo Paul, while spinner Jomel Warrican came in for Sheman Lewis.

Thakur's Dream Debut Turns Into A Nightmare

But the debutant was forced to leave the field due to a groin strain after bowling just 10 deliveries, leaving India with only one seamer.
