Addressing a rally in Bijnor today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked Congress VP Rahul Gandhi, saying “If you google his name, then you will find the largest number of jokes on his name.”

According to a report in The Hindu, the PM also had a laugh at Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav’s expense, saying that he had sided with someone who had the highest number of jokes on him on Google.

The PM also evoked Chaudhary Charan Singh in an attempt to pacify the Jats who have strong reservations about the BJP-led government at the Centre, adding that the Congress had left no stone unturned in insulting the veteran leader.

Addressing Yadav and Gandhi as ‘do kumbe’, the PM advised the people to stay away from the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, saying that they had looted UP and India. He reportedly added that the SP had done good for only one village in the state and that the party does not even look after its own “vote-bank”.

The PM also reportedly attacked SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on his comments on rape and said that the current government in the state was not “competent” enough to provide safety to its citizens.

This is yet another instance of the PM hitting ‘below the belt’ in election rhetoric with the BJP looking increasingly desperate before the elections to five states and in the wake of demonetisation. If reports are to be believed the AAP is giving the BJP-SAD combine a tough fight in Punjab and regional parties in Uttar Pradesh are also going toe-to-toe with the BJP.

Only yesterday, in Parliament, the PM had attacked the Congress saying that only former PM Manmohan Singh knew of the art of bathing with a raincoat on. The jibe attracted much criticism and earned him the opposition’s ire.
