A leader of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, a youth organisation founded by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, allegedly ran his car over a one year-old calf in Uttar Pradesh and dragged it for over 20 metre.

Cow protection, note, is one of the key objectives of the organisation.

According to a report by the Indian Express, the calf's owner Rajrani — a resident of Nivada. had alleged that a group of men in an inebriated condition, started their car from near a liquor shop around 7.30 pm and ran over the calf that was tied nearby along with a cow. She alleged that the calf died after it was dragged for about 20 metres.

Police have registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle) of the IPC against unidentified persons following her complaint. A letter is also being sent to the Regional Transport Officer to know its owner. However, locals  claimed that the car belonged to Akhand Pratap Singh, the Lucknow district convener of HYV, said the report.

The militant Hindu Yuva Vahini strongly advocates cow protection. Amid the intensified cow protection movement by such organisations, ever since the BJP won a mammoth victory in Uttar Pradesh,  several stringent steps have been taken to punish the 'perpetrators', even criminalize the transport and slaughter of cows in various states.
