On Sunday, Sacked AAP minister Kapil Mishra alleged that Health minister Satyendra Jain paid Rs 2 crore to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. The reason ascribed for Mishra’s ouster is his demand for action against those involved in the water tanker scam.

But what is this scam that questioned the conduct of two subsequent chief ministers of the national capital.

Here's all you need to know

The Sheila Dikshit government was accused of irregularities in purchase of 385 stainless steel tankers between 2010-2013 from private companies, a scam of around Rs 400 crore

The tankers were bought to supply water in the areas where Delhi Jal Board didn’t have pipeline.

According to a report , the first tender of Rs 50.98 crore to lease tankers was cancelled by the government on March 9, 2010.

Dikshit-led government has been accused of favouritism for hiring a Hyderabad-based consultant and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd without the process of tenders.

The five-member fact-finding committee was set up in June 2015 by the AAP government to probe the alleged irregularities in hiring the stainless steel water tankers by the Delhi Jal Board in 2012 during Dikshit’s tenure.

The committee's report was forwarded to the then Delhi Lieutenant Governor, Najeeb Jung, with a recommendation of investigating the scam by the CBI or the capital's Anti Corruption Branch (ACB).

However, later it was alleged that Kejriwal tried to suppress the scam.

A Hindustan Times report said BJP’s Lok Sabha member from south Delhi Ramesh Bhiduri had alleged that Kejriwal took Rs 92 crore from the private tanker company. Then Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay had alleged that there was an intentional delay in sending the report of the fact-finding committee to Lt Governor.

Kapil Mishra has also accused Kejriwal of saving party leaders by suppressing the scam.
