I was introduced to him in Mumbai in Subhash Ghai’s studio and I sang three songs forhim. He was recording the background for Kisna and I sang a little in that. But later on when they wanted a Punjabi number for Rang De basanti for the Shabad Gurbani he remembered my name. Whenever Rahman listens to somebody, the voice registers in his mind and when he hasa song fit for that voice, he calls you.

He told me, "This is a morning prayer. What d’you guys sing in themorning? I told him. He said, "Just go to the mike and sing it two-three times, close your eyes, feel the song and sing it. I recorded ita few times and he chose the best rendition.

He is very relaxed when he is working. After the Shabad he wanted me to sing another alaap. I asked,"What's the tune?" and he said, "I’ll hum it in your ear." It was that spontaneous. Soquick.

Definitely he has contributed a lot to music. When you listen to his music you realize that really musichas no language. I listen to his Telugu songs also. I don’t understand the lyrics but I understand the feel of the song.. You can catch the pulse of the song. He really isgod-gifted and he knows how to compose a song and communicate through it.
