Gujarat Deputy CM Nitin Patel’s son was stopped from getting on a Qatar Airways flight early on Monday morning after he was found drunk and argued with the airport staff.

According to an IANS report, Jaiman Patel, in his mid-30s, was scheduled to leave for Greece for a vacation along with his wife and daughter on a 4 a.m. flight.

Patel, a land-dealer, was reportedly so drunk that he was finding it difficult to walk and cleared immigration and other checks in a wheel-chair.

“Jaiman Patel was prevented from boarding the flight. He also had an argument with the staff of the airways,” an official told the news agency, requesting anonymity.

The report mentions that his father, the deputy CM, came out in his son’s defense outside his residence in Gandhinagar. The elder Patel told reporters that it was a ploy by his opponents to “tarnish our image by spreading false and mischievous information”.

The 60-year-old minister reportedly added that his son was not feeling well and the decision to return home was taken after his daughter-in-law called and informed them of his condition.
