Former Congress Parliamentarian MK Subba Passes Away After Long Illness

Mani Kumar Subba, the former Congress parliamentarian, breathed his last on Monday in New Delhi after a long illness

He was 61. Subba was a three-time MP from Assam’s Tezpur constituency from 1998 to 2009,

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has condoled the demise of the veteran leader. “Saddened to learn about the demise of former Lok Sabha MP Mani Kumar Subba. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and well-wishers in this time of grief," said Sonowal in a tweet.

Subba was admitted to the GNRC Hospitals in Guwahati on April 3, 2014, following a cardiac arrest due to high blood pressure. After that, he was shifted to New Delhi for better treatment. Subha remained bed-ridden for the past five years.

He was also an MLA in Tezpur. Former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi also expressed condolences to Subha's family.

Subba was born on March 16, 1958, in Darjeeling. Before moving to Assam, he stayed in Sikkim for a while. Subha leaves behind his wife, one son and three daughters.

Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh also expressed grief at the demise of the Gorkha leader.

“This is an irreparable loss to our society. May the great departed soul be embraced by his ancestor's abode! You will be remembered for your parental guidance to the community and have always been like a father figure,” National Secretary (Youth Affairs) of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, Nana Kirati Dewan said.

Dewan termed him as the architect of Gorkha Development Council. Subba was the president Assam Gorkha Sammelan (1992-2016). Subha's name had frequently emerged in a lottery scam.
