Five militants and one elite Army's special force personnel were killed in a fierce gunbattle at Hajin area of Bandipora on Saturday, around 30 km north of Srinagar, Srinagar based defence spokesman said.
He said the operation, which was launched on Saturday afternoon still continues. One IAF GARUD soldier was killed and another Army soldier was wounded, he further added.
The gunfight was continuing when last reports came in, the official said.
Security forces cordoned off and launched a search operation in Chandergeer village in Hajin area of the district after receiving specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.

The search operation resulted in an encounter when the militants hiding there fired on the search party of the security forces, who retaliated.
