Attacking the Centre on the NRC issue, West Bengal chief minister Mamta Banerjee on Wednesday said the government could even brand her an "infiltrator" as her parents did not have papers to prove that they were born in India.

Banerjee said even genuine voters were not included in the final draft National Register of Citizens (NRC).

"My father or even my mother never had birth certificates to show that they were born here.

"Luckily, I have my documents, but on the ground that my parents do not have proper documents, the BJP government could have branded me infiltrator," the West Bengal chief minister told reporters here.

Lashing out at the BJP, the TMC chief said the ruling party cannot dictate terms and decide who is the real citizen of the country.

"The BJP cannot stop me. I am not their servant," she said.

Her comments come against the backdrop of the Assam government publishing the draft NRC on July 30.

The names of over 40 lakh people did not figure in the list.

Earlier in the day, a police complaint was lodged against Banerjee by a youth leader here today over her alleged provocative remarks on the NRC draft.

Sudipta Hazarika, general secretary of the central committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad, filed the complaint at the North Lakhimpur Sadar police station over Banerjee's remarks yesterday that the NRC in Assam could lead to a "bloodbath and a civil war in the country", the police said.

"Going against the Supreme Court Mamata Banerjee is making all efforts to halt the NRC process by meeting the Union Home Minister. There is apprehension that an uncalled for situation may be created anytime. Therefore I appeal to you (officer-in-charge) to file a case against Mamata Banerjee and take necessary action," Hazarika said in the complaint said.
