Eid al-Adah, also known as the 'Festival of Sacrifice' or Bakrid, is one of the two Eids celebrated by Muslims across the world .

The festival commemorates the readiness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son to prove his obedience to God. However, after seeing his unfaltering devotion, God asked him to sacrifice a lamb instead.

On this day, Muslims sacrifice an animal and prepare a feast therafter . The animal is distributed among friends and relative.

Dishes made on Bakrid

The celebration is all about having a hearty and rich meal with your near and dear ones. One cannot imagine about Eid celebration without the delicious mutton biryani which is made of basmati rice with tender and well marinated mutton and aroma of the exotic spices which can fill up the whole room and even your heart.

Mutton Shami Kebab is another perfect small eat or a starter for an elaborate Bakrid menu. It is prepared using mutton keema, chana dal and a whole range of spices. Mutton kofta is another popular Bakrid dish. This too is prepared with minced meat and spices. Small meat balls are made and then put in rich gravy made of nuts, cream and spices. This dish goes well with traditional sweet breads.

Eid celebration remains incomplete without seviyaan or Sheer khurma. This is sweet dish made of seviyaan soaked in milk and in every spoonful of this kheer you get a bite of nuts like almonds, pistachios and cashews. The milk has a golden yellow colour because of the soaked saffron in it. The taste of dry fruits, saffron ghee and spices lingers in your mouth as you finish feasting on an elaborate Eid-ul Adah meal!
