The CPI(M) in Kerala today found itself in a predicament after Malayala Manorama reported that a Dubai-based tourism company has alleged financial fraud to the tune of Rs 13 crore against the son of the party’s state chief Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

The report said the company, JAAS Tourism LLC,  has filed a complaint to the party’s leadership against Balakrishnan’s son, Binoy, warning that they will seek Interpol warrant against him if the party does not intervene and settle the issue.

The report said Dubai public prosecutor has already directed the company to approach the Interpol since the cheques given by Binoy have been dishonored.

The company claimed that they had given AED 3,13,200 (Rs 53.61 lakh) and AED 45lakh (Rs 7.7 crore) to Binoy for buying an Audi car and for his businesses in India, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Nepal respectively. The company alleged Binoy “escaped to India” without paying back the amount. They alleged that there has been five other criminal cases against Binoy in the UAE.

The company has also claimed that they had met the CPI(M) chief through a middleman to complain about his son and he had promised to settle the issue. But, he did not take any action thereafter.

Reacting to the news, Binoy claimed that the deal was already settled in 2014 and said he would soon submit those documents in the Dubai court. He said his father will soon hold a press conference to clarify the matter.

However, the CPI(M) chief said his son will react to the reports against him. He said the party does not have to intervene in the matter as it has nothing to do with the party.
