In a shocking incident, a team of doctors in Thane stopped a surgery after a cockroach was spotted inside the operation theatre(OT).

The incident took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital where a 45-year-old  man was undergoing a leg surgery. During the operation, senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Sanjay Baranwal found the insect crawling and subsequently he started recording a video to gather evidence on the precarious condition of the OT, reports The Times of india.

According to the dean of the hospital, C Maitra, the presence of scrap material between the OT and the intensive care unit could have possible attracted the pests, which will be cleared soon.

However, she refused to comment on the presence of the cockroach inside the OT, the TOI report adds.

The surgery was resumed immediately after the video recording was done. Speaking to the newspaper, Dr Baranwal said,"I have already submitted the video to the hospital authorities; I can't comment further."

The  hospital has witnessed post-operative infections in as many as 25 per cent of the patients in December, according to the senior doctors and staff.

Amidst the entire incident, the most shocking part was that the OT was still not disinfected with chemicals even after the video was submitted to the authorities.
