A sigh of relief for the Delhiites as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) today, has confirmed that Delhi’s longest Metro line — Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar — will get operational from April 2018, subject to availability of land. The revised schedule was updated by the Delhi Metro based on ground reports. However, the schedule for other lines will remain same.

“This initiative will help commuters like us. It will save our time and energy both,” said Swapna Saha, resident of Majlis Park. "The work is expected to be completed on the Kalindi Kunj to Kalkaji section next month, which will be followed by clearances, including the safety audit," confirmed Anuj Dayal.

“The ITO-Kashmere Gate section is slated to be completed this month, while the Mundka-Bahadurgarh and Dwarka-Najafgarh lines will be completed by December,” said Anuj Dayal.

While construction as well as train and signalling trials on the ITO-Kashmere Gate section have been completed, the line is yet to become operational as it awaits safety audit by the commissioner metro rail safety (CMRS). This is likely to take some time, admitted DMRC officials.

As believed by the DMRC officials this initiative by to make Line 7 operational will touch portions of inner Ring Road and drastically cut travel time between eastern and southern flanks of the national capital. It will connect northwest Delhi's Mukundpur to northeast Delhi's Shiv Vihar cutting across various south Delhi areas, including Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension, and densely populated parts of east Delhi, such as Mayur Vihar-I, Vinod Nagar and Karkardooma.

According to a report by The Indian Express, a total of 140km of Metro network will be added to the current coverage of 213km in the phase-III expansion project that is being undertaken at a cost of around Rs 40,000 crore,” added Anuj Dayal.
