A crime branch officer has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) for accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000.

The cop ASI Rakesh Kumar had assured bail of an arrested man to the latter's sister(complainant) if he was paid Rs 2 lakh through a lawyer appointed by him. Kumar was caught after a trap was laid by the CBI team, reported The Times of India.

On Wednesday, Kumar was caught red-handed accepting the bribe outside the crime branch office in Daryaganj . Kumar had voluntarily offered help to the arrested man's family members, CBI officers said.

Initially after asking for Rs 2 lakh bribe, the complainant had managed to convince Kumar to settle for Rs 70,000. “He claimed that a share of the money would go to his senior officers,“ the woman wrote in her complaint.

The complainant agreed to meet him at Tis Hazari courts later that evening to pay a certain part of the amount. Kumar had told her that Anshul would deliver the money to him.

She then sought CBI's help. Subsequently, a CBI team nabbed Rakesh and the man who had come to deliver the money to him.
