The Greater Noida police booked five Nigerian nationals on Sunday for allegedly drugging a class 12 student, causing a cardiac arrest, ultimately resulting in his death.

Manish Singh was a student of Jaypee International School and a resident of NSG Society in Greater Noida. He reportedly went missing Friday evening and returned home the next morning in an inebriated state after which he was admitted to a private hospital, where he died due to cardiac arrest, allegedly caused by the drug overdose, says a report in the Hindustan Times

The death of the student has caused an uproar in the NSG society with residents accusing the Nigerian nationals of drugging the boy, demanding their arrests and eviction from the society. On the other hand, many Nigerian nationals and nationals of other African countries too held a demonstration outside the Kasna police station demanding the release of the students, the report said.

“The Nigerian students have been falsely implicated in the matter without any evidence. We are in talks with the Nigerian High Commission on the issue. The police have assured a fair inquiry into the matter.”, the HT report quoted Samuel T Jack, the president of the association of African students in India as saying.
