According to a report, passengers carrying cartridges in their luggage is the most frequently reported crime. In most instances, the police said, the passenger forgot to remove ammunition from their bags before bringing them to the airport.

The Delhi Police registered 116 cases under Arms Act at the Indira Gandhi International airport last year and 129 in the year 2015, said the Hindustan Times report.

In most of the cases, the passengers have either forgotton to remove the bullet while packing their bags or have borrowed luggage carriers. The foreigners also find it difficult here who are not even aware of such laws because carrying bullets is legal in their home country.

Though carrying a bullet without a firearm does not amount to a 'security threat', the existing law under Arms Act makes it mandatory to register an FIR against the person, the police told the paper.

According to civil aviation rules, a passenger is allowed to carry licenced firearms after declaring it in his registered baggage.
