Karnataka BJP MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath posted pornographic content on a WhatsApp group comprising senior government and police officials and journalists.
Deccan Herald reported that the 49-year-old posted over 50 nude pictures of women on the group, which has deputy commissioners and inspectors of the police force, Members of Parliament, Zilla Parishad members and journalists.
Sharing pornographic content is against cyber-laws in the country and Kavatagimath reportedly posted 56 pictures at close to 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The report says that the posts stunned the other members into silence while women officials condemned them and exited the group.
A report in The Times of India quotes the group-admin Mahaboob Makandar who removed the MLC from the group as soon as the incident happened. “I don't know how the pictures were posted to the group. But, I immediately removed him from the group,” he reportedly said, telling the newspaper that he knew the politician as a ‘decent’ person.

WhatsApp group-administrators can be held culpable for the kind of content that is shared on the group. According to a report from the same day that the BJP MLC was sharing the pictures, two people from Karnataka, including the group-admin were arrested for objectionable pictures of PM Modi on a group.
When the newspaper asked Makandar about it, he said that he couldn’t be held for another man’s folly and said that the question of a case arises when the image of a person is harmed due to objectionable content.
