Tata Motors 2019 Geneva Round Up: Altroz,H2X, Buzzard & More

The carmaker showcased four near production-spec cars and a micro-SUV concept at the Swiss show

This year, it was Tata Motors’ 21st outing at the Geneva Motor Show and the Indian carmaker left no stone unturned to make its presence felt at the annual Swiss show. The carmaker showcased three new near production-spec cars, one concept along with Harrier’s European debut. Tata also revealed various other info about its upcoming plans for the Indian market. So, with the 2019 Geneva Motor Show coming to an end on 17 March, let’s take a look at what all we got to know from the house of Tata at the event.

The Four Cars:

Altroz Geneva Edition: Tata debuted the Altroz premium hatchback at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. It is the first car to be underpinned by Tata’s in-house developed ALFA-ARC. Scheduled to go on sale in India later in mid-2019, the Baleno-rival will be available with three engine options to choose from- two petrol and a diesel.

Altroz EV Geneva Edition: Along with the conventionally powered Altroz, Tata also showcased the electrified version of the premium hatchback. Set to go on sale in India by 2020, the Altroz EV will have a single charge range of between 250km to 300km and will be equipped with fast charging capabilities. Tata claims that it can juice up the battery to 80 per cent in 60 minutes.

Buzzard Geneva Edition: The Buzzard is basically a 7-seater version of the Harrier which is expected to go on sale in India later this year. It not only shares its underpinnings with the Harrier but borrows its styling as well. When launched in India, it is unlikely to be called the Buzzard, says Tata Motors.

Buzzard Sport Geneva Edition: The Buzzard Sport is a special edition model of the Harrier for the Geneva Motor Show. It is essentially the standard Harrier except for some cosmetic updates including a black roof and bigger alloys. In fact, it was Harrier's international debut since its concept, the H5X, was showcased at the last year’s Geneva Motor Show. The Harrier is likely to be called Buzzard Sport in the international market.

All the cars showcased at the event were Geneva Edition models. So, expect the India-spec cars to be slightly different from them. Except for the Buzzard Sport, which is already on offer in India.

The Concept:

H2X: Based on the same ALFA-ARC platform like the Altroz, the H2X will spawn an entry-level SUV, which is expected to hit production by 2020 with possible 2020 Auto Expo debut. The H2X-based SUV will sit below the Nexon in Tata’s lineup and will rival likes of the Mahindra KUV100 and the Maruti Ignis as well as the popular Maruti Suzuki Swift and others.

Important info:

The Harrier will get a 1.6-litre direct injection petrol engine in the near future. At launch, it will be available with a manual as well as a torque converter automatic, which will later be replaced by a dual clutch automatic transmission.

Tata is likely to introduce 4X4 variants of both the Harrier as well as its 7-seater version. However, they are expected to go on sale post the introduction of automatic and petrol variants of the Harrier twins.
