Kia has launched its debut product in India, the Seltos, and its introductory prices range between Rs 9.69 lakh to Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). This compact SUV’s premium pricing makes it compete with 5-seater mid-size SUVs like the Tata Harrier too.

We compare similarly priced variants of both SUVs to see which one offers better value for money.

Basic Differences

Dimensions

The Harrier is a bigger SUV than the Seltos in terms of length, width, height and wheelbase too. However, the Kia’s boot is surprisingly more spacious.

Engines

  • The Harrier is powered by the same, larger diesel engine as the Hector but in a different state of tune. It still offers a lot more power and torque than the diesel unit in the Seltos.

  • Both engines are mated to a 6-speed manual but the Seltos also offers a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

  • The diesel-powered Seltos is more frugal than the Harrier in both manual and automatic variants.

Prices of comparable variants (Detailed prices at the end of the story)

To keep things fair, we will compare variants that are priced within Rs 50,000 of each other. Also, the Tata SUV is only available with a diesel engine, so we’ll be comparing it only with similarly priced diesel variants of the Seltos.
