It is a tremendous honour for me to be awarded the Crossword Award for English Fiction for 2001. India is a nation that appears to be bursting at the seams with prodigiously talented writers who have been winning every other literary award around the globe, and now seem just lining up for the next Nobel prize for literature. Merely to be included in their ranks is honour enough. To be acknowleded in this fashion is an overwhelming experience.
I only hope that my work will be one additional demonstration to the world that writers of English fiction in India are not limited by the constraints of culture, geography and experience and are capable of producing great works of imagination and skill in every genre of English letters.
I thank the organisers and judges of the Crossword Award for English Fiction 2001 for this signal honour.
