Bengaluru Police has received a complaint related to match-fixing. Former Indian Premier League and Ranji Trophy player Rajagopal Sathish reportedly filed the complaint alleging that he was offered a sum of INR 40 lakhs for fixing a match. (More Cricket News)

As per a report in The Indian Express, a person named Bunny Anand on Instagram approached Sathish on January 3, offering him the sum and telling him that two players had already agreed to the offer. However, Satish said ‘sorry’ and refused Bunny Anand’s offer, the report added.

“A special team has been formed and we suspect that the accused, who claimed to be called Bunny Anand, is in Bengaluru,” the Bengaluru Police official said as quoted in the report.

It is also learned that before going to the police, Rajagopal Sathish raised the issue to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and International Cricket Council (ICC). However, given that the BCCI Anti-Corruption and Security Unity (ACSU) doesn’t have power to investigate or search in any corruption related issue in cricket, the body, too, eventually had to go to police for further action.

“The player approached us and ICC, and informed us that someone had approached him on Instagram. We took details of the case and told our ACU officer to file a police complaint in the matter. We are just a facilitator and now police will look into the case,” said ACSU chief Shabbir Khandwawala as quoted on the report.
