Manchester City put two goals past Graham Potter’s Chelsea to advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. After an action packed yet goalless first half, City opened the scoring through Riyad Mahrez in the 53rd minute. Mahrez was charging towards the Chelsea goal and was brought down by Trevor Chalobah. Through the free kick, Mahrez fired City into the lead, placing a powerful free kick over the wall, giving no chance to Edouard Mendy to make the save. Just after five minutes of City taking the lead, Pep Guardiola’s men doubled their advantage through Julian Alvarez hitting on the break. Mahrez made space on the right side of the Chelsea box and took a shot with his wicked left foot which was met with a save by Mendy. Alvarez was the first to react to the loose ball and slot it home. Chelsea had a couple of glorious chances but they failed to make them count.
