In this file photo, Irrfan might be on a high, being cast in Inferno with Tom Hanks, but on Father’s Day, he took his boy, Aayan, for an exemplary lesson in simplicity, and a thing of immense symbolism. Father and son were in Sabarmati ashram, spinning khadi.

When the emperor of maladies lays its dire finger upon anyone, it needs a reserve of inner steel and loving care to stare him down at his court. Irrfan, being treated in London, may have lost some weight, but not his good cheer. Sonali Bendre, who is in New York, has been parrying the advances of ‘Big C’ with the adoring support of her cute son, Ranveer Behl. May victory be theirs.

Wake Up and Smell the Embers A red-hot kangri that came flying at Irrfan—with some of the flyash smearing the boyish Shahid Kapur—may be seen as an advance Kashmiri review of Vishal Bharadwaj's Haider. But admit it, he does look the part. And if an exchange of perspectives is to happen, maybe they'll do better than the government panel.

Irrfan Khan, Actor
We have ancestral property near Jaipur but I always wanted to earn money. I hated studies and wanted to go to Saudi Arabia because that was the ‘in thing’ then. Initially, I used to go door-to-door fixing air-conditioners. But I realised that simply earning money would not do. I was fascinated by films and wanted to learn the craft. When I came to Mumbai, everything fell into place.
