Buffalo Soldiers... Among the bizarre goings-on in ‘Ulta Pradesh’, last week saw three cops being suspended after seven buffaloes belonging to the all-powerful minister Azam Khan were stolen. This even after the constabulary recovered the bovines after a 24-hour- long hunt in Rampur, the minister’s home ground. Khan was apparently contemplating more serious action and more heads are likely to roll for the “grave lapse” and “dereliction of duty”. For weren’t his buffalos “more famous than the Queen of England”? So pervasive is Khan’s writ that a desperate Rampur SP, Sadhana Goswami, was busy explaining to every media outlet with a mike how she left no stone unturned to trace the vibs! Apparently, over a 100 UP policemen, drawn from different police stations, were put on the buffalo hunt.

It’s The American way Akhilesh Yadav has been quick to forgive his American tormentors. To jog your memory, the young Uttar Pradesh CM had boycotted a programme at Harvard University recently after US customs authorities at Boston airport “insulted” his minister Azam Khan. He’s now accepted another American invitation, this time from the US-India Business Council. A delegation from the body had earlier visited Lucknow and Akhilesh is learnt to be all set to fly next month to the US, ostensibly in search of investors for India’s most populous state. The USIBC will probably be hoping Akhilesh is not accompanied by ‘Uncle Azam’ this time, whose Khan suffix was the cause of much consternation during his Boston trip. That said, the ‘insult’ can’t have affected them that much. Even after the incident, the duo had stayed on back in the US. While Akhilesh undertook a four-day sojourn with wife and children, the allegedly “humiliated” Azam had extended his trip for two more days.
