With Ram Jethmalani's demise, we have lost an eminent jurist, a great intellectual, a fearless human being and one of the most respected members of the Bar.
Ram Jethmalani was famously known as the doyen of criminal law in the country. His tryst with the subject started at the young age of 18 and he practiced it for nearly 60 years.
Ram Jethmalani, 95, passed away on Sunday at 7.45 am at his official residence in New Delhi. He died a few days before his 96th birthday on September 14
The prime minister Modi recalled that one of the best aspects of eminent jurist and former Union minister Ram Jethmalani was the ability to speak his mind.
The legal luminary had been ailing since the past two weeks
'What has BJP said to Governor, that he did such a stupid action? Order of Governor is open invitation to do corruption.'
"No person can be subjected to scandalous and abusive language in garb of cross-examination; this has to be dealt with a heavy hand," the court told the CM, referring to the remarks made by Kejriwal's former counsel, Ram Jethmalani.
In a letter, reportedly written by Jethmalani to Kerjiwal, the former has accused the latter of using even more offensive language in private conversations while referring to Jaitley.
Jaitley, who had filed the civil defamation suit claiming Rs 10 crore damages from Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders, had filed another defamation suit of Rs 10 crore against the Chief Minister alone
ethmalani and Jaitley have been going for each other’s jugular in the Delhi High Court and their exchanges have made headlines over the past few months.
Jethmalani’s office had earlier sought a retainer fee of Rs 1 crore and demanded Rs 22 lakh per appearance in court
His cross-examination by Jethmalani, who is representing Kejriwal, remained inconclusive and will continue on May 15 and 17.
During the cross-examination, Jethmalani asked Jaitley if he was aware that in the suit, the word "libel" or "slander" had not been used anywhere
Jethmalani retorted by telling Jaitley that “it was your personal feeling about your greatness, that it can't be estimated in terms of fiscal measure”.
“Mehbooba’s advice for dialogue with Pakistan is anti-national”
The eminent lawyer writes another open letter to the finance minister: 'I want to show to the nation that you are determined to see that Prime Minister Modi can never fulfil his pledge to the unfortunate people of India to get back the black money'
The former law minister writes to the finance minister on the black money issue: 'I strongly suspect that your conduct shows that you too like many others do not want truth to come out'
