The violence that had erupted in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri has now taken a political turn. Opposition leaders who have been trying to reach the farmers' protest site have been stopped, detained.

Chandrashekhar Azad said everyone had heard about Jallianwala Bagh, but now they are talking about Shaheen Bagh. 'I promise you that in the next 10 days, there will be at least 5,000 Shaheen Baghs across the country.'
'Peaceful protest is our strength. People from all religions, who support us, should join us in great numbers,' Azad said.
The court gave bail to Azad but restrained him from visiting Delhi for four weeks or holding any dharna till the elections.
"You are behaving as if Jama Masjid was Pakistan and even if it was Pakistan, you can go there and protest. Pakistan was a part of undivided India," the court said.
