Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal during a fire which broke out in the conference hall of her office, on the second floor of Vikas Bhawan in New Delhi.
In her complaint, the woman, who hails from Srinagar, has alleged that her landlady had entered the house along with a man and called her 'terrorist' as she is from Kashmir.
After battling for her life with more than 90 per cent burns for almost 40 hours, the 23-year-old woman died following a cardiac arrest on Friday night at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
Citing the incidents of the gangrape and murder of a Hyderabad veterinarian and the brutal rape of a six-year-old girl in Rajasthan, Swati Maliwal said, 'Daughters are falling prey to such heinous crimes in every corner of the country.'
'In my community, there are thousands of Nirbhayas. You can’t even imagine the way they are raped and killed,' Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, trans rights activist said.
The statement comes two days after DCW Chief Swati Maliwal penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to set up an investigation committee at the earliest.
The police said the women were confined to the house for the past few days and were soon going to be trafficked to Gulf countries. They have detained three men for interrogation in this regard.
DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal, who is on a Satyagraha since November 3, says that the objective of my method is to invigorate myself through concentrated activity, and jolt the system out of its stupor.
