One of the foods that is much sought after in Kolkata during the holy month of Ramzan is the Haleem. A slow-cooked dish made with lentils and meat, it finds favour across communities. You will find handcarts at street corners to roadside kiosks selling this tasty dish. But if hygiene and a pleasant ambience are your concerns, then head to some of the popular restaurants in the city known for their Mughlai and Awadhi cuisine.

Aminia, one of the oldest restaurant brands in the city, is offering Ramzan Special Shahi Haleem until May 1.

Made with meat, wheat, rice and whole pulses, and ghee, the Shahi Haleem is reminiscent of its Arabic antecedents. They are offering both chicken and mutton versions of the dish.

While the restaurant which opened in 1929 (near Nakhoda Mosque in Kolkata) has shut down, you may visit their branches spread in and around Kolkata (New Market, Golpark, Hatibagan, Barrackpore, Serampore, etc.). Both variants are priced at Rs 285 plus tax.
