Canada has made it essential for air travellers aged 5 and above, to test negative for COVID-19 before arrival. This travel restriction will be imposed from January 7, 2021.

For people travelling to Canada, the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) COVID-19 test has to be taken 72 hours before their scheduled departure. The documents bearing a negative report of the test have to be shown to the airline before boarding the flight. Apart from this, pre-departure testing, and a 14-day quarantine on reaching Canada is mandatory.

As per the earlier travel restrictions to Canada, non-essential foreigners were denied entry and Canadian citizens returning from abroad were required to quarantine on arrival. Now the Canadian government plans to increase surveillance to keep a tab on people completing their quarantine period too.

As COVID-19 cases have spiked lately in Ontario and Quebec, it has become essential for authorities to impose new restrictions for incoming passengers.
