The ‘Abode of Clouds’ is opening its shutters for travellers from outside the state. After remaining closed for a long stretch (of around nine months) due to the pandemic, Meghalaya is all set to welcome tourists from December 21.
The state has released a set of health protocols and guidelines that need to be followed by anyone wanting to visit the state.

Any traveller wanting to visit must download the Meghalaya Tourism app and get themselves registered by uploading their photo ID. Further only those who receive an e-invite will be allowed in the state which will be generated through the app itself.
A set of standard operating procedures (SOP) has been issued according to which the following need to be kept in mind while travelling in Meghalaya:
An original copy of COVID-19 negative report at entry points
Tests are valid within 72 hours of starting the journey with RAT negative test not valid for entering the state
Mandatory registration on the Meghalaya tourism app and generate an e-invite for the proposed itinerary
The e-invite can be generated by uploading the photo ID of the travelling members on the app
One can book at least two nights at a hotel/homestay and an itinerary for the entire stay needs to be declared and uploaded for the e-invite to be generated
Even for those who intend to stay with family/friends, the number and address needs to be declared of the same in order to get an e-invite
The services of registered tour operators listed on the Meghalaya Tourism website and on the Meghalaya Tourism app, can also be used to get an e-invite.
