The Science and Technology Museum in Guangming Science City in China is all set to get a new design. The project, being made for the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Science Technology Innovation Corridor, is all set to become a landmark institution and aims to be a significant destination to delve deeper into the world of science and technology.
This new structure will connect with various schools, universities, and institutions across the country, as part of the region’s World Class Science City.
The museum will be a U-shaped one with an atrium courtyard in the centre, while exhibition and gallery spaces for educational and public use will surround it. There will also be inter connected public spacies, galleries and educational facilities. All of this will span across an area of 1,25,000 square feet.
Resonating with the city on the east, the museum will explore the ‘solidity and dynamic curvilinear geometries’. While keeping in mind the west, the atrium will connect to its natural surroundings, including the Guangming Park.
Additionally, the museum is hoping to become a benchmark for sustainability, with the focus of its structure being on energy performance, air quality, wind flow and natural lightning.
The project is being undertaken by Zaha Hadid Architects and is slated to be completed by 2023. Zara Hadid Architects is the brain child of the ‘Queen of the Curves’, Zara Hadid. The Baghdad born architect was known to push boundaries of architecture and urban design. She is also the first female Arab architect to have won the coveted Pritzker Architecture Prize. Her work today continues to be showcased in exhibitions worldwide and also held in important museum collections.
