In wake of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, Canada has decided to extend restrictions on international travel to prevent further outbreak of the dreadful virus.
The country had imposed several restrictions on March 16, among which foreign nationals were not permitted to enter for non-essential travel purposes. The government has now banned international travellers from entering the country till January 2021. However, for those travelling to Canada from the neighbouring USA, the restrictions will be extended till December 2021.
Government officials said that authorities in Canada will continue to monitor the situation and revaluation of the restrictions will be done at a later date. The government will also see if travellers should be quarantined or isolated in order to safeguard Canadians.
According to official figures, as many as 4,00,000 people cross the borders of United States and Canada every day but the figure has gone down since the pandemic hit.
Only students, essential workers, guardians and family members of Canadian citizens were allowed to enter Canada even though the ban was in place. They were also asked to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
