While you have many reasons to visit the ‘City of Dreams’, one more might be added to the list very soon. Mumbai will get a world-class aquarium which would be a part of an international standard tourism complex.

The aquarium is proposed to come up at Worli—famous for the Bandra-Worli sea link—in south Mumbai.

Mumbai, currently, houses the famous Taraporewala Aquarium on Marine Drive that is home to marine and freshwater fish and underwater creatures, including turtles, morays, sharks and varieties of coral fish from the Lakshadweep Islands.

The idea was proposed at the annual budget session by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, recently. The Tourism Department was asked to chalk out a plan for the same in December last year by state CM Uddhav Thackeray.

"An international standard tourism complex would come up on the Worli Dairy land with an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore," Pawar said while presenting his budget in the Legislative Assembly.

In an attempt to boost tourism, an outlay of Rs1,400 crore has been announced for the Ministry of Tourism under the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government’s budget.

The state, formed on May 1, 1960, will also soon spot diamond jubilee celebrations, for which Rs 55 crore have been allocated in the budget.

Earlier this year, Mumbai also became the first Indian city to be open 24X7. Beginning January 27, malls, multiplexes, shops and restaurants were allowed to function all night.
