While still a niche compared to pop music, heavy metal and hard rock music have a rather loyal following around the world. Bangalore Open Air is returning for its 9th edition to bring together all the metal-heads in India. India’s only festival completely dedicated to hard rock and heavy metal, the event was first held in 2012. The same has seen well-known bands from various countries, including Kreator, Napalm Death, and Iced Earth. Additionally, it has also hosted many Indian groups like Kryptos, and Demonic Resurrection.
This year, legendary Swedish band Marduk, Finnish death metal band Kalmah, American progressive metal band Intronaut, and female-fronted German band Beyond the Black will take the stage. Beyond the Black is brought to the event by the German Embassy, which is officially affiliated with Bangalore Open Air 2020. Walter J.Lindner, the German Ambassador to India, will be the special guest. The event will also see the performance of The Down Troddence, a thrash and groove metal band from Kerala.
The Indian edition of the Wacken Metal Battle is hosted by the festival. This competition sees lesser-known bands competing for a spot at the Wacken Open Air in Germany, the largest metal music festival in the world.
