Chef, author and traveller, Anthony Bourdain wore many hats throughout his lifetime. However, his untimely death meant that the culinary world had lost one of its most important elements. Bourdain through his famous series, Parts Unknown, chronicled his journey across the globe, sampling unusual foods and introducing the viewers to the humanitarian aspect of the culinary world. With the aim of keeping his legacy alive, a documentary film is being made to celebrate and commemorate the culinary prodigy.
The still untitled film is being directed and produced by Morgan Neville, who worked closely with celebrity chef David Chang on his show Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner which largely drew inspiration from Bourdain’s legacy. In order to bring the feature film documentary together, CNN, HBO max and Focus Features have joined hands to tell the story of the celebrity chef. Having been involved in most of Bourdain’s projects for almost 20 years, founders of Zero Point Zero Productions, Lydia Tenaglia and Christopher Collins will be consulting producers on the film along with Bourdain’s agent and literary executor, Kimberly Witherspoon. In order to make the documentary more authentic, Bourdain’s estate has also agreed to provide photos, home videos and letters for the documentary.
Bourdain committed suicide in June 2018. The documentary does not have an official release date as of now, but fans are hopeful that the film will do justice to the life of one of the most celebrated culinary stars. The film will be released worldwide by Focus Features, followed by a television debut on CNN and then on HBO Max for streaming. We can’t wait for it to be available in India.
