Can you guess which is the cleanest railway station in India? According to a survey conducted by the Indian Railways under the ‘Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat' campaign, Jaipur tops the list. Not far behind are Jodhpur, Durgapura and Jammu Tawi ranking second, third and fourth, respectively.
According to the report published last week, "Indian Railways translated “Swachh Bharat” to its own “Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat” campaign with intent to improve the travelling experience of its passengers. The campaign was introduced with the mission to improve the cleanliness in railways including station premises." The 8000 stations included in the survey were classified into Non-Suburban (NS), Suburban (S) and Halt (H) categories.
While Jaipur and the other stations were ranked in the NSG category, the first station in the SG category was Andheri, followed by Virar, Naigaon and Kandivli. In the zonal category of the Indian Railways, the North Western railway ranked first, South Eastern Central railway, second and the Eastern Central Railway, third.
The responsibility of execution of the survey was given to the Quality Council of India that gave equal weightage (33.33%) to process evaluation, direct observation and citizen feedback in order to evaluate the stations. The 2019 edition of the survey ranked 720 stations as opposed to 407 last year.
The Indian Railways is one of the world's largest rail networks comprising of a network spread over 68442 kms, running more than 22,000 trains each day from more than 8,000 stations carrying about 23 million travellers and 3 million tonnes of freight daily.
