The land that gave us the mighty Indian one horned rhinoceros, the Bihu dance, that gorgeous cuppa of the Orthodox Assam tea, the unique river island Majuli, to name a few, is on its way to become a global tourist destination. And soon. On August 10, 2019, the Assam government made the announcement that a sum of 300 Crore has been sanctioned to Assam Tourism to promote the state as the next big global tourist destination. The good news just doesn't end there; the state may also (and soon) host the Filmfare Awards in Guwahati! the stars are indeed shining for the lovely state of Assam. Amidst the recent news of flood ravaged Assam, this is definitely a sweet welcome.

Can Assam do it? We didn't have to dig too deep to find reasons why Assam can be the next big thing where tourism is concerned. There are many reasons but here are 10 best reasons why:

1. Indian one-horned rhinoceros
2. Bihu festival (and they have four in a year!)
3. The intangible history and architecture of Sivasagar
4. World's largest river island—Majuli
5. The fastest growing city in the northeast India—Guwahati
6. The Orthodox Assam Tea (hand-processed tea)
7. The best three: Muga Silk, Eri Silk and Pat Silk
8. Kaziranga National Park and its denizens
9. The challenging white-water rafting and kayaking in the Kopili River
10. Traditional Assamese food
