When Edward Hopper painted Western Motel in 1957, little did he imagine, that 62 years later, one could actually sleep in it. Let us explain. Hopper’s famous painting will be recreated in a three-dimensional environment at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond from October 26, 2019 through February 23, 2020 to celebrate ‘Edward Hopper and the American Hotel’. The travelling exhibition will include more than 60 paintings and drawings by the great American realist painter, along with other 26 artists depicting US hotels and travel. It will also include Hopper’s wife Jo’s road trip diaries and postcards. If you are a Hopper fan, make sure you get tickets for the overnight ‘Hopper Hotel Experience’. While we know that prices will range from $150 to $500, and will include amenities like dinner and curator-guide tours, more details about the room (available for bookings on weekends) are expected soon.
