There’s nothing quite like a pop quiz to kick start a Monday. Does the drop of a new trailer get your heart racing? Do you have your calendar, albeit digital, marked with the release dates of films? And lastly, were you, like us, battling with the rest of the world to get the best IMAX seats for Avengers: End Game last month?
If the answer to more than one of the above is a yes, then hold on to that popcorn tub tight: IMAX has recently announced the launch of its biggest screen till date--it is in Germany.
In 2020, IMAX Corporation will launch the world’s largest IMAX screen along with a German Independent cinema operator, Lochmann Filmtheatrebetriebe. The new screen--said to have an estimated screen size of 38 metres--will be an addition to the existing Traumpalast Leonberg multiplex in Leonberg.
It will also have a new laser experience with a 4k laser projection system--in other words, the films you will see here will have higher resolution, sharper and brighter pictures, and the ‘widest range of colors available to filmmakers’, as per the official press release. In addition, a 12-channel sound technology will be part of this new launch, for an even more immersive experience.
At the moment, the largest IMAX screen currently is in Australia with a screen 32 metres wide and 23 metres high. You can expect to see at least 10 more IMAX screens open up in Germany in the future.
