Being set in a 19th-century zenana is not the only thing extraordinary about the Madhavendra Palace Sculpture Park in Jaipur. As India's first public sculpture art gallery, it places contemporary art on a historical stage. Set in Nahargarh Fort, its ramparts forming an impressive backdrop, the palace invites a viewing experience quite distinct from a 'white-cube' gallery setting. The exhibit has been curated by Peter Nagy of Nature Morte Art, featuring artworks by 21 Indian and international artists, including never-seen-before pieces developed especially for the site. Once such is Richard Long's River of Stones, made from local red sandstone. Other notable works include Reena Saini Kallat's Chorus, Chrysanne Stathacos's Five Mirrors of the World, Mahbubur Rahman's Transformation and Archana Hande's I Am Blur. This is the Sculpture Park's second edition, scheduled to run till November 15, 2019.
