Your feet dance nervously as horns are blaring from all directions. Tires hiss over the wet roads and the crowd of cars increases by the second as the red color of the traffic signal refuses to budge. You check your watch as sweat trickles down your forehead. Minutes are racing by and this unyielding traffic is proving impossible to shake as you head to the Indira Gandhi International Airport to catch your flight taking off in less than an hour.
Has the traffic gotten the better of you before? Well, I have a good news for you frequent flyers. Delhi will be getting its second airport as per as the announcement made by the Center for Aviation by 2022. The project which will start after Prime Minister Modi lays the foundation stone of the Jewar International Airport between February 23 and 25 got the approval from the central government in 2017. Once completed the airport in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Greater Noida will be the largest in the country.
The Jewar Airport will be about 72 kilometers from the India Gandhi International Airport (I.G.I.A). With its oncoming, the government expects to lessen the burden on the I.G.I.A. Bhiwandi in Rajasthan was also in contention for the project, but Greater Noida had the last laugh.
