When the first reviews went live on TripAdvisor, it was a small, unknown website for people to post their candid thoughts about hotels. Born in 2000 in the dot-com era, TripAdvisor was one of the first travel platforms for user-generated reviews on hotels, and later, restaurants, museums, the shop around the corner and so on. Encouraging honest, unfiltered conversation in the interest of travellers, the site grew swiftly. Today it has more than 600 million reviews from across the world.
Now, they’re upping their game by expanding to becoming the first-ever travel social network. You can now curate your personal ‘feed’ with recommendations from TripAdvisor by following friends, favourite reviewers, travel experts and publications. The feed will include photos, videos and reviews from the people you follow. Apart from posting and reading reviews, you can write travel guides, itineraries and, here’s our favourite, even create wish lists on the site and app. Not only that, when you go on vacation, you’ll be notified if you stroll past locations your friends have recommended. The personalised feed will include stunning photos and videos, and reviews by people you follow, making sure that you never leave the website without being struck by a whim to travel. Planning a vacation has never been this social, has it?
